Love Always
My heart is heavy today. I hurt for a friend of mine that I love. I'm confused as to why people take pleasure in offending one another. Does it make them feel superior? Probably. Does it make them superior? No.
I've made some great friends in blogland. I look over my favorites list and see very few that I haven't exchanged personal correspondence with. Am I like minded with them, no, not many. A few maybe. Do I love them, definitely.
I don't understand the need to offend. When I go to read some of my favorites, sometimes (depending on the subject matter) I have to pass. There are places I don't want to go in my head. There are thoughts I don't want to entertain. There are pictures posted sometimes that I don't need to see. That is my choice. I don't feel the need to come against them, to hurl insults at them...or to offend them. No one in this world is the same as I am and I don't expect them to be.
We all have our contributions to make. I appreciate those contributions of others. I appreciate the love expressed, the humor expressed and the subjects written about that make me think. Clay is (and has been since I started blogging) one of my favorite people. He's an intelligent and open human being. He's also a young, black, gay New Yorker. I have little in common with Clay, my being an older, white, straight Texan. Regardless, I love Clay. He's an amazing writer, he challenges me as a human being and he has educated me. Do I feel the need to turn him into me? No, of course not. The world already has a Kathi McIntire Bratcher, it doesn't need two. It needs its Clay's of the world. I am grateful for our differences. How interesting would a puzzle be if it were a solid color with no distinction between the pieces? How interesting would music be if every song had the same melody?

The interesting thing about blogland is that everyone is so different. There are so many people/writers/intellectuals/intellectual wannabes and theologians who think what’s written is ‘said and done’. There are racists, there are extremists to the left and to the right. I mean, there are so many colors not only in blogland, but in the world.
You’ve shown your colors. You’re a beautiful person—with her own mind; her own values who doesn’t offend others when she sticks to her own beliefs. That’s what separates you from the judgmental hypocrites to being a warm-hearted person who has compassion for others. You’ve displayed this over and over again…and that’s why so many people love you.
I wish we had more people like you who too value in ‘life’; who has a heart for everyone---not just people you know in person, but even strangers. You don’t have to be liked in order for you to like someone---AND that is rare!
I’m glad I got to know you Kath!
I love you girl!!!
Well...for the most part I don't post controversial entries...and when I do it certainly gets a reaction but I try to stay level headed about most things.
It would be boring as hell if we always agreed about everything and I don't judge people too often anyway.
Sometimes people just need to lighten up a bit huh?
Thanks Kathi..that was awfully nice!
Im going to go visit Clay right now!
deb ~ you're too kind to me and give me way too much credit...really. But, thanks. I love you TOO!!!
mike ~ I'm sorry, did you just say that you're level headed? LOL, mini throw up there... Just kidding guy, I adore you.
Anne ~ you're welcome sugar!!
mmm mmm mmm...what did you do Kathi? shame on you lashing out at someone. I knew you were only pretending to be such a cool, down to earth, caring person. ;-)
In real life I offend people all the time. I express my views without apologies and that bothers people for some reason. People tend to take offense because they believe I'm inflexible when I say "i'm me and this is how I move/think/feel/react right or wrong." I try to explain to these fools that I'll change things about myself when I see fit not when they want me to do it.
Big hug Kathi!
Any human connection is significant and that is what makes blogging so special. You have the potential to connect with people from totally different "worlds". But when you read the words from another's heart and mind, you find we are all from the same world.
thank you for this. your writing is so humble and open and honest. i'm not so sure that the world doesn't need two of you though. it could be a better place if there was. :)
shawn ~ yeah, I like that about you, you don't pull any punches. Big hug back at'cha!
brea ~ exactly, tis true.
joey ~ awwww, thanks hon. If you knew me better though, you'd not think so. :) You are the one that is open and honest, the posts on your blog are so raw and real. Love ya sweetie.
I thought you were kidding about being from Texas. I am not sure you can be one of my favorite people anymore....awwww what the heck...LOL. Kathi...you are unique...a rarity in a world where everyone wants to be the same and strives for duplicity.
yes, it is interesting how blogging transcends so many differences - thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SHOUT OUT!
cm ~ now what'cha doing making me blush? Thanks Tom. :)
clay ~ You constantly make me proud of you.
random ~ you're welcome...and thank YOU.
It does take so many different kinds of people to make our world that it is. That is I guess the beauty of a human being, we are so similar ( two eyes, hands, legs) but we are so different
cheers
Oh and we definitely love you back !
cheers
tbg ~ thanks, that meant a lot to me!
actually yes that's the reason people hurt others .. it makes them feel superior .. sad but true ..
God said "Love your fellow beings" .. offending someone proves what I don't know .. it's just satisfaction that some people get by offending people .. once again, sad
hope u and ur friend feel better
Guess I'm like you Mike.. I don't say anything controversial, unless it's regarding my VISA WAIVER that your government won't speak to me about!
Now in Denver and heading to Durango and then Roswell, New Mex.
Kathi,
I have sort of wanted to blog about this subject - I wrote my Tuesday blog entry before I read yours. I saw it said something about ~deb and Dani, and I finished my entry before reading yours. Loved your entry.
okay..I have tried to not say anything..but its been since thursday! Get to posting woman!
I have noticed that not a lot of my friend-bloggers are around. Was there a party I missed?
Hi Kathi,
I just updated my blog today. I have some big news to share. I think you'll be proud. Head over to my blog and comment if you can. I'd appreciate it. Great post as always.
hey darlin'
there's a lot of that going around in blogland these days. people are deleting blogs and getting spammed and apparently even stalked!
it's weird out there sometimes
*huggs*
Hi Kathi,.....I just want to say that 1st off I'm sorry I haven't been by lately....my heads been up my butt and I haven't been to my favorite blogs in way too long.
Sorry to see that someone has upset you. People just don't get it about blogs sometimes I think. These are our journals and we should be able to freely express ourselves without worry about offending someone. Just like you, if I see or read something I don't like or truely disagree with, I simply leave quietly without responding.
I have like you since the very first day I found your blog. You have made me laugh and feel good and I've cried with you and have envied you at times as well. I have agreed and disagreed (only never posted a disagreement) and will continue to stop by here because of all you have to offer to us that read your thoughts. Hope you're feeling better about whatever hurt you. (((((((HUGS)))))) and I promise to stop by regularly again.
you know i love when people disagree with my posts... as long as they're respectful about it.
i mean i want opinions or i wouldn't post... what i don't want is flames.
you okay? No tornados where you are right?
why hello there stranger it's been a long time since we've spoken, i see your as appreciated as ever, and glad of it. such a varied group of friends, a tell tale sign of an insightful and comopassionate heart. Many blessings.
Oh go ahead and be "incorrect". I'll support ya :)
"Offense" is a hard term to define nowadays. I know I offend people, but that's for their unfortunate lack of perspective... in my view.
But when people offend others out of hatred or bitterness.... THAT.... I do NOT agree with.
Time for a blog update dear...May 4th...darn Texans..they are slackers I tell you...slackers...
Very cool design! Useful information. Go on!
